Rules for My Unborn Son by Walker Lamond
I received "Rules for my Unborn Son" by Walker Lamond, which was released on October 27th. I was pleasantly surprised by it's retro look & feel and couldn't wait to crack the book open.
I am a huge proponent for preserving family history. I'm the Chief Memory Officer for my family (both branches of the family tree). I was fortunate enough to have known my great-grandmother who came to the US from Ireland when she was in her late teens. She died when I was 12 but I still marvel at how much I remember about her struggles when she came to our country. Plus I particularly liked her Irish brogue. "Nana" was a true gem. She single-handedly raised my grandmother and her two sisters and one brother.
I began to read "Rules for My Unborn Son" and intended to just read the first few pages and then scan the rest of the book. I became enamored with the humorous tidbits and words of wisdom that Walker had captured from memories of his father. This book is one of my favorites for a number of reasons. I love nostalgia. I love the fact that "in the old days" people were much more courteous to one another, men were traditionally gentlemen, and attire was much more formal that what we see today.
Take a look at the so-called "role models" that the younger generation has today. The likes of Chris Brown, a talented recording artist, who has already had issues with how to treat women. Consider the current fashion trends for young men - baggy pants that are barely held up with a belt, oversized shirts, hats, etc. I could go on and on. I'm delighted to see a book such as this that can remind men about what is proper, and what is not, with regard to so many issues in life.
My husband is now going to read this book because he wants to learn about things to pass on to our 2 year old son Sam. Rules for My Unborn Son is definitely a must read for any parent.
