Disney on Ice Opening Night in Denver Aimed to Please

Sam with Mickey & Minnie

We waited with baited breath to go to this year's Disney On Ice "Let's Celebrate!" show.  It was at the Pepsi Center which makes it easy for us to hop off the highway, park, watch the show, and hop back onto the highway to get home after the show.  That's the beauty of downtown Denver.

We were part of the lucky group of folks to participate in the "Meet & Greet" with Mickey and Minnie.

Mickey and Minnie are so sweet and very patient for all the eager kids to get up there and pose with them.  Personally, I think I missed my calling for a career as a Disney character.  How much fun must that be??  Exhausting but a lot of fun, I'm sure.

Our seats were fantastic!  Just 7 rows back from center ice.  Wow.  We were blown away at how close we were to the action.

The show was unique.  It started off with an "Unbirthday" celebration with the Mad Hatter and Alice and Wonderland.  Then Mickey & Minnie decide to go on an adventure - and participate in many celebrations.  They start with Halloween, which at first seemed a little past its celebration point, but quickly you see that it fits into the whole theme.  Plus the skeleton is a big hit with the kids.

Then it's time to Celebrate Valentine's Day and out came all the princesses and their princes.  From Cinderella, to Snow White and Ariel and others.  It was really wonderful to watch.

Next was a Hawaiian celebration, with Lilo and Stitch and flame throwers.

Then they were off to New Orleans for a Mardi Gras celebration with the Princess and her frog who is now a prince. (I may have these celebrations out of order by the way, but at least you get the jist of it).

The finale of the show is around a Christmas celebration and it snows on all the Disney characters, including Buzz, Woody, Jesse and other Toy Story favorites such as Pig, Rex and the Army guy.  Goofy was dressed as Santa and it was a great way to wrap up the entire celebration show.

I have a bunch of photos on Flickr - so check them out to see your favorites.  As I talked to some of the other moms who were there, they also thought the show was a huge success.  They all loved seeing their favorite Disney friends.

Our 6 year old neighbor Alex thought this show was "so much better than last year!" - and he loved the show last year.  (I think the awesome seats helped contribute to the experience.)

My 3 year old didn't nap at preschool, so he was winding down during intermission, but he really enjoyed it as well.  It's a lot to see and take in.  The costumes are extraordinary!  And the show has a quick pace.  We were thankful it didn't run past 9pm so we got home at a reasonable hour to get a good night's sleep.

Overall, I can't say enough about this year's show.  It's fantastic and a lot of fun for the whole family.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot more dads turn out at this show than I've seen at previous shows.  So it truly is a family affair. The show is in Denver through Sunday, Dec 12th.  Tickets are on sale through TicketHorse at www.TicketHorse.com/DisneyOnIce, by calling 1.866.461.6556 and at the Pepsi Center Box Office.
